Members of the Executive agreed a budget of £1,950,000 to reinstate and improve the Goldwater Lodge building.
Cllr. John Kingsbury, Leader of the Council, said: "I am delighted that we can now begin the hard work of bringing Goldwater Lodge back into use. The fire that gutted the building in December 2012 has denied local people of their community facility for far too long. Council officers can now progress the project and the community can look forward to a new, improved facility opening in the future that will benefit many in the local area."
The project will include the following building works:
- Reinstating and refurbishing the community hall and its facilities.
- Reinstating and refurbishing the nursery premises.
- Replacing, refurbishing and enhancing existing street lighting and CCTV provision around the exterior of the site.
- Improving drainage and relocating existing toilet facilities.
Subject to planning consent, works will commence this year and are expected to last around 12 months.
