Local Campaigner Chitra Rana is celebrating his election as the new Conservative Councillor for Goldsworth West after his victory over the Liberal Democrats in last Thursday's by-election.
Chitra welcomed the news saying: "It is an honour and a privilege to represent my local community as a Councillor. I promise to work hard for local residents, to improve the character of our area and to support our local Conservative Administration in their efforts to regenerate the town centre and keep Council Tax low."
Meanwhile fellow Conservative Sonia Elbaraka fell just 32 votes short of winning a second seat of the Lib Dems in the neighbouring ward of Goldworth East. Sonia said: "Thank you so much to everyone who supported me on Thursday. This was my first time standing for election and I really enjoyed getting out and talking to local residents about the future of our area."
Council Leader John Kingsbury said: "Cllr. Rana's win means that Woking Conservatives now have 25 of the 36 seats on Woking Borough Council, and demonstrates that local residents are generally very satisfied with the way in which the Conservative Administration has been managing the Council in recent years."
