Woking MP Jonathan was on hand to load the final carton of gift-filled shoeboxes onto a truck bound for children in Centra Asia who would otherwise receive nothing at Christmas.
Jonathan was invited to the send-off of the truck by Stephen Shurville and his wife Eleanor, who are registered volunteers for Operation Christmas Child based in Woking. More than 8,500 shoeboxes found their way into the container on the truck, all part of the scheme, which is a project of Christian relief organisation Samaritan's Purse.
The boxes are provided to needy children regardless of race or religion and are sent not just from the UK but from other European countries, the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
Jonathan said: "Operation Christmas Child is a wonderful initiative to give a little box of Christmas cheer to some of the world's most disadvantaged children. Well done to all those involved in Woking and Guildford for contributing to an exceptional year for the project.
"It was great to see all that generosity and hard work at first hand and I felt very privileged to put the last box onto a lorry that is now on its way to Kyrgyzstan."
