Following Britain's success at the Olympic and Paralympic Games, Woking MP Jonathan Lord was delighted to meet a Woking constituent last week who is a member of the England Learning Disability cricket squad.
Lee Stenning was part of the squad that won the INAS Tri-Series in South Africa last winter. Also present at the House of Commons reception were members and representatives of The Physical Disability Squad who took part in the inaugural international against Pakistan.
In 2005 the Enland Cricket Board (ECB) took over responsibility for delivering opportunities for players with disabilities to participate in the sport at the grassroots and International level. Following some early success, the ECB put in place a Development and Talent Identification programme to find and nurture the best cricketers with a Learning Disability in the country.
Jonathan said: "Meeting Lee and others involved in cricket for people with disabilities was a great pleasure. After a summer where many remarkable people have demonstrated that a disability of any kind need not be a barrier to sporting achievement, I wish him and his cricketing colleagues every success for the future."
