Prime Minister David Cameron highlighted the importance of a hi-tech economy and a workforce skilled in technical innovation as he opened the McLaren Production Centre earlier this week.
The £50million new centre, which will create 350 jobs in the area and work to develope the company's £150,000 MP4-12C supercar rival to Lamborghini and Ferrari, is seen as an important step in moving towards the Conservatives' vision of an economy based around engineering excellence and the British spirit of innovation.
Woking MP Jonathan Lord was with the Prime Minister and said: "It's absolutely at the cutting edge of technology. The McLaren Production Centre will generate significant business for this area and bring balance to our local economy between retail, financial services and hi-tech manufacturing sectors.
"I'm really delighted that David Cameron is here today to see for himself the role Woking is playing in achieving the vision for our economy laid down in the 2010 Conservative manifesto."
McLaren boss Ron Dennis said: "Prime Minister, thank you, especially, for taking the time to join us here today. We appreciate your visit very much, since it clearly demonstrates your commitment to our industry - an industry which, we know, sits at the very heart of your declared strategy to rebalance the UK economy.
"And I’m sure all of us here today, whether we be policy makers or industry leaders, support that strategy. Certainly, McLaren intends to contribute to it."
