In 2015, Old Woking elected a Conservative councillor for the first time in a generation but local man John Lawrence lost out in 2016 after a year of fighting for residents. Kingfield and Westfield, which had a Conservative councillor from 2007 to 2011, joins with Old Woking to form the new Hoe Valley ward. A few changes are made however; Claremont Avenue comes into the ward from Mount Hermon West and the Barnsbury Estate now forms part of Heathlands.
John is working hard and still wants the opportunity to serve local residents in the area that he lives. John is standing on a platform of flood alleivation along the Hoe Stream, of combatting anti-social behaviour and tackling parking outside our schools.
“I really enjoyed the opportunity I had to represent local people for a year,” said John. “I think I’ve still got a lot to give and so I’m standing again to work on the issues that matter.
“I live in Old Woking with my wife Sally and I’m a builder by trade so I meet and work with a lot of people. I’m going to be out and about over the next few months and I look forward to speaking to as many local residents as possible.”
John is standing again as he wants to serve the people of Hoe Valley as he did before. Along with new development has come better flood protection and this is something the Conservative team is campaign hard for. He also wants to see better crime prevention, the protection of nearby green spaces and a stop to careless speeding along the wards various main roads.
